It takes 20 years for a turtle to replace itself. Depending on species a turtle needs to reach 10-20+ years of age before it is able to reproduce. If one adult female is lost to a population, research has shown that this population can collapse within 80 years!
Our Vision
We hope to create a network of turtle spotters/ finders/ drivers who locate and rescue an injured turtle and transport the turtle to a rehabilitator for care.
If a turtle is forced to remain on asphalt for a long time, hot temperatures will cause the injured chelonian to overheat. Other issues are fly strike, shock, blood loss and repeated hits. Thus it is important to get help for the turtle as soon as possible.
